During the Literary Café, we dive into the book of the month from an intersectional feminist perspective. Together, we create a safe and inclusive space for open conversation, where your impressions of the book and personal experiences related to its themes take center stage. One of our volunteers will guide you through the discussion. Reading the book in advance is encouraged but not required.

On Wednesday, June 11, we’ll be reading The Wall by Marlen Haushofer. The novel follows a woman spending a weekend with her cousin in a remote hunting lodge in the Austrian Alps. After the first night, she discovers she is completely cut off from the outside world by a mysterious, invisible glass wall. All life beyond the wall appears to have vanished. Accompanied by a dog, a cat, and a cow, she tries to survive — searching for food, hunting, and wandering through the forest. To cope with her loneliness, she keeps a diary in which she documents her struggle with nature and her inner demons.

Our volunteer Pauline will lead the conversation and invite you to engage actively. Using quotes, media clips, and thought-provoking prompts, we’ll open space for reflection, shared insights, and critical dialogue.

Everyone is welcome — even if you haven’t read the book. Come listen, share, and reflect on the themes together.
